Cows & Cow Bells

Cows & Cow Bells

Cows & Cow Bells

I have 4 children.  I love that they spend their afternoons playing outdoors and enjoying the country.

There is one particular game that my daughters love.  Unfortunately, this game involves the cows and a painfully loud cow bell.  Since cow bells were made to be worn by cows, I’m gonna assume that it’s not hurting anyone.  At least, it shouldn’t be hurting any cows.

Furthermore, I’m sure the cows like the company.

I’m told the game is called,  “Pioneer Cow.”  They pretend to be kids living back in the 1800’s and our cow Faith plays the role of “Trinka” the milk cow who came to Kentucky with the first settlers in the New World.

In this game they trade Faith’s harness for a giant, loud, noisy, cow bell.

Poor Faith.

This bell belonged to my grandfather.  My kids great-grandfather.  It is very, very old.  And very, very loud.

Of course, like any young, obnoxious, adolescent boy,  the knucklehead (her adopted calf) who lives with Faith LOVES this bell.

Crumple knocks his giant skull into the bell so people living in Europe can hear it “clang.”

“Clang! Clang! Clang!”

“Clang!”

Do you see the look on Faith’s face?  It totally cracks me up.  I’m pretty sure I make this face at my children.

I can hear what she is thinking:

“What is wrong with you?”

“You are going to make us both deaf.”

“Lay off the bell.”

“Would someone please shoot this calf, or take this noise-maker off my neck?”

I think Crumple is laughing.

Maybe we should put the bell on him?
