THE GARAGE GREENHOUSE!!!

THE GARAGE GREENHOUSE!!!

THE GARAGE GREENHOUSE

We sold our homestead to a lovely couple who have become our friends.  It is the most precious gift.

When they first reached out to us and invited us to come over I was leary.  I thought it would be difficult, weird, or sad to go back to the place we called home for over a decade.

I was wrong. It has not been uncomfortable going back to visit our homestead.  In fact, we have gone to visit several times.

There have been dinners, pizza parties, shooting lessons, critter removal, and they come by the pawnshop to visit often.  They have brought us eggs from our old coop on several occasions, they have even brought us flowers from the garden.

Such wonderful people.

Anyhow, we were there last week for a visit and I was astounded with what they have done with the garage.

The garage attached to the house…

the one we used to store crap, shoes, tools, 4-wheelers, dirt bikes, and rogue chickens.

This garage is not storing stuff anymore.

It is growing stuff

With 2 x 4’s, clear plastic roof panels, and some screws – they created a year-round growing environment right outside the back door.

HAVE YOU EVER???!!!

I was so amazed.  And jealous.  And thrilled for them!

Never once did it cross my mind to turn the garage into a greenhouse, but it is genius!

If you, like us, have never parked a car in your garage – you may as well put the space to work.

BENEFITS OF A GARAGE GREENHOUSE

BENEFIT #1- FAST

Built in a day.  Because it doesn’t require an entire structure (only one side of the garage must be fashioned into a greenhouse) the supplies can be purchased and the framework completed quickly.

BENEFIT #2- INEXPENSIVE

Inexpensive.  Unlike most greenhouses that can cost thousands, this will only cost you a couple of hundred dollars (based on Lowes pricing)

BENEFIT #3- CONVENIENT

Convenient.  This greenhouse is literally right out the kitchen door.  Watering, tending, and harvesting does not get any more convenient than this.

BENEFIT #4- NO FREEZING

No Freezing.  Because this is an attached garage, there is no chance of the plants inside freezing.  Ever.  If temperatures drop deep, the plants can simply be pulled into the garage.  Shut the garage door for an added layer of protection.

BENEFIT #5- GROW ANYTHING

Grow whatever you want!  With this sort of protected environment, you can grow anything.  Lemon trees, lime trees, guava, avocados, the sky is the limit!

This is creativity at it’s best.  I suppose we sometimes make gardening harder than it is.  Look around and see if you have a south-facing building you can turn into your greenhouse!

Candi
