Peanut Butter Balls

Peanut Butter Balls

Peanut Butter Balls

My grandmother made these.  My mommy made these.  I have grown up eating these.  I’m pretty sure Reeses got the idea from these balls.

When it comes to candy – I will always pass.  Herseys, Nestle, Wonka… it doesn’t matter.  I don’t eat any of it.

It’s not that I’m that dedicated to avoiding sugar.  It’s just not worth it.  It’s bad for me.  It’s filled with unpronounceable ingredients.  It’s not food.

I usually do not eat corporate candy, but I do eat candy from Trader Joes.  I know.  Hypocrite.

My favorite is the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups from Trader Joes.  If you would like to send me a gift that I can’t resist – those are my crack.

I love them.

BUT, homemade is always better!  And, Tis the season for making candy and all things sweet.  So, I’m rolling up my sleeves and dunking our own junk food!

This recipe is as old as the hills – which means it’s better than all the rest, don’t ya’ know?

When it comes to making candy, the inside comes first.

Melt the butter and use an electric mixer to mix in the peanut butter, confectioners sugar, and milk.

Once it’s all mixed up grab a wooden spoon and it will all come together into a giant clump.

Use your hands to roll the centers into one inch balls.

Place them on a parchment lined baking sheet.  When they are all rolled, move the tray to the freezer to harden.

We let ours chill for about an hour before dunking them in chocolate.

Melt chocolate in the microwave or on the stove top with a double boiler.  I have this cute little copper, fondue pot that is perfect for candy-making.

Melt the chocolate and stir in the coconut oil.

Use a toothpick to dip the peanut butter centers into the chocolate, leaving a bit of the peanut butter exposed.  This makes them adorable (it also makes them look just like buckeyes – a name they are also known for).

Return the balls to the parchment paper after dipping in the chocolate and let them set.  Store in the refrigerator.

If you want to make more candy – check out these Kentucky Straight Bourbon Balls – they are Sensational!

Candi
