MILK COW FOR SALE!
$1600 (or best offer)
Hello beautiful people!
I have exciting news…
A dear friend of mine is interested in selling one of her precious, family milk cows.
My friend’s name is Anne and she is actually babysitting Daisy for me while I am in between farms. Anne has been breeding and milking cows longer than I have and she is a pro.
The lovely thing about buying a milk cow from someone like me (or Anne) is that we treat our cows like most people treat their dogs. We love them. We scratch them behind their ears. We hug them. We give them treats. And our cows know they are adored. They come when we call them. They stand still in the milk barn while we do our business all over their udders.
This is the sort of cow every homesteader dreams of.
Her name is Petal
Petal is three years old and has had a healthy bull-calf. No trouble calving and produced a gallon of milk per day (with a calf on her). This means if you took the calf off you would get substantially more milk.
Her milk production (like most cows) will likely increase with her next freshening cycle.
She comes to the milk-barn to be milked. Stands still and is super easy to work with.
She is half Jersey and half black Angus.
What does this mean?
Can you milk a cow that is half black Angus?
YES!
If she is amiable to milking, she is healthy, and she produces milk–then you have a milk cow!
Petal has the sweet jersey temperament through and through. She has been more of a “pet” than a cow since the day she was born. She was born on Anne’s farm and has lived her entire life there.
Petal comes to be milked, she stands still while milking, and she makes plenty of milk for a calf and a family.
Petal is currently bred to an Angus bull, baby due next spring (April-ish).
She was hand-milked for her first lactation.
Since Petal only knows hand milking – her new owner has plenty of options.
If you want to continue hand-milking, Petal kwows what to do.
If you would like to switch to machine- milking, Petal will easily make the transition to an electric pump.
If a cow has been hand milked and you want to use an electric milker – NO PROBLEMS.
This is a great scenario. Whether you want to hand milk or use a little electric portable milker, Petal will be a great cow for your family.
She is experienced
The worst part about a new cow is the first freshening. It is quite stressful. When a cow has NEVER had a calf before you have no idea how that first delivery will go. She could have trouble, she may need help, it is hard to know how things will go with that first delivery.
Petal’s first pregnancy was flawless and ended with a healthy calf.
She has successfully delivered a calf so the new owner knows that Petal has what it takes to get a healthy calf on the ground.
She raised her first calf. This means that Petal will be an excellent mother.
Her lactation was flowing – she produced plenty of milk and this will increase with her next lactation.
The nice thing about Petal is that she has this first birth under her belt. She smoothly delivered her first calf, made gallons of creamy delicious milk for her lactation period, and is now expecting her second calf in spring.
What a wonderful cow for a lucky family!
