Fight Cancer With Food – What is CLA & How to Eat it

CLA was discovered in 1987 when scientists found it was able to fight cancer in mice.

It’s true.  CLA  (conjugated linoleic acid) is a miracle food.

Here is an excerpt from canceractive.com:

Conjugated linoleic acid or CLA could well be one the most important Complementary and Integrative Cancer Treatments available according to the latest research. It has a number of clear health benefits, not least in cancer where it seems to stop inflammation, prevent cancer, limit metastases, stop blood supply formation and tumor development.

What is CLA & how can I get some?

Some fats make you fat.  Some fats make you sick.  Some fats give you energy.  Some fats are super health foods.  CLA is the Iron Man of healthy fats.

Once the mice were amazingly healed from cancer – It wasn’t long before they also learned this powerful, good fat also reduces body fat levels, it stimulates the breakdown of fat, increases fat burning and improves body composition (less fat, more muscle), (source)

People who consume foods high in CLA enjoy:

  • Lower risk of diabetes
  • Lower risk of cancer
  • Lower risk of heart disease
  • Lower risk of breast cancer (source)
  • Lower (bad) cholesterol
  • Improved metabolism (increased levels of fat burning)
  • Improved body composition (more muscle, less fat)
  • Reduced fat levels (decreased abdominal fat)
  • Increased immune response
  • Increased ability to breakdown fats
  • Lower risk of prostate cancer.  Studies show consumption of whole milk is linked with lower risk of prostate cancer.  Likewise, those who consumed low-fat milk have higher prostate cancer rates (source). When you understand that whole milk is higher in fat, thus higher in CLA it makes sense.  To take out the fat would take out the cancer-fighting wonder-fat – CLA.  Amazing!

Don’t run out to your local vitamin dealer and buy a bottle of CLA pills.

Unfortunately, the CLA found in supplements is not derived from natural foods.  It is made by chemically altering vegetable oils and will not have the effect on your health that naturally sourced CLA does.

In order to get the good stuff you’ll need to get a cow consume foods naturally high in CLA.

Meat and Dairy products from grass-fed animals are substantially higher in CLA.

Dairy products from grass-fed animals are miracle foods.  One of the reasons these foods are so remarkable is the CLA content. Not only does raw milk contain Omega-3 (good fat), vitamin C, Vitamin E, and beta-carotene;  it also contains high levels of CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) the cancer fighting wonder-fat.  (source)

CLA in grass-fed dairy and beef is 300-500% higher. (source #1)  (source #2)

Foods to eat to get more CLA:

  • Any grass-fed dairy products (milk, butter, sour cream, buttermilk, etc).  These can come from: goat, sheep, cow, camels,  any will do as long as they are grass-fed.
  • Meat from grass-fed animals.
  • Eggs from pastured chickens. Go here to learn how to keep chickens without fences.

“Better to pay the grocer than the doctor.”

We have chosen to ‘grow’ our own milk, dairy, eggs, and meat around here.  You don’t have to get a cow to get more CLA in your diet.  By purchasing grass-fed meat and dairy products you can also have a diet richer in CLA.  Buying grass-fed, organic foods is expensive, but so are doctors.

The father of one of my best friends grew up on a dairy farm.  They didn’t pasteurize their milk.  They didn’t homogenize their milk.  His family drank real, raw milk.

He has never taken antibiotics in his life.  He is well into his 60’s and enjoying excellent health.

I may never know how much having a milk cow has affected my health or the health of my family, but I know that it is good.  I know we are healthier than we would be without it.  It gives me peace of mind and satisfaction to serve my family farm-raised, fresh, meat & dairy products.
