4 Reasons to Eat Fat

4 Reasons to Eat Fat

Not all fats are the same.

The fat from a homestead or traditional farm is actually very good.

Most of my fat comes from happy animals that sunbathe and eat grass (butter, lard, tallow).

If you haven’t yet heard,  you’ve been lied to.  All those “healthy” fats, like canola, corn and sunflower oils aren’t really healthy (think of the oil section at the local grocer).  If you’ve never heard this before, let me be the one to break it to you.  Vegetable shortenings, canola oil, vegetable oil, corn oil, soybean oil and even most lard are BAD. Really bad.  Not sure?  Read this.

We’ve been bamboozled.

Nearly all the beautiful, crystal-clear oils sold at the grocery have been highly tampered with.  If it’s been processed, refined or hydrogenated it can be damaging to the body.

Natural, organic, unprocessed fats are not bad.  Not only are they not bad.  They are good.

Some natural fats that are good for you:

  • Organic Coconut Oil
  • Organic Olive Oil
  • Organic (preferably raw) butter from grass-fed cows
  • Ghee (organic of course)
  • Organic Lard (from pastured hogs)
  • Organic Beef tallow (from grass-fed cows)

Today I’m going to focus on the good fats that come from animals – since that’s where most of my fat comes from.

How to get your hands on some healthy fat:

Here’s 4 Reasons To Eat Natural Fats

#1 NATURAL FATS ARE GOOD FOR YOU

Let’s start with, “Omega 3 and Omega 6 fats are important for your health.  All your cell membranes need these fats.”

Now add,  “Your body can’t make Omega 3 and Omega 6 fats.”  You have to eat them. Source

Practically every cell in your body needs these fats, your body can not produce these fats.  You must eat foods that contain them.  Enter the organically pastured pig, cow, and duck.  Yea, Fat!

My chickens, pigs, and cows are sunbathing and eating grass.  The meat, dairy, and fat from animals raised this way are excellent sources of vitamins B6, B12, K2, selenium, iron, phosphorus, niacin, potassium, and riboflavin.  They even boast high amounts of omega 3’s (good fat) and the cancer-resistant, wonder-fat CLA.

There have been some pretty intense studies by people much smarter than me who have found that the nasty stuff clogging arteries is not the good fats from grass-eating animals.  It’s the bad fats from feed-lot critters, processed foods and evil things that have been hydrogenated.

If the animal products in your diet have been living in feedlots & eating corn – the fat from that animal will be horrible, saturated fat.  It can cause serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and some types of cancer.

Likewise, if the animal products in your diet have been organically grass-fed, the fat will be the highly praised, miracle food of unsatruated fats with low Omega 6 fats (bad fat), high Omega 3 fats (good fat) and CLA (wonder-fat).

Good fat.  Who knew?

#2 NATURAL FATS ARE HEALING

Science Lesson For The Day:

Scientists have determined that the ratio to Omega 6 Fats (bad) to Omega 3 fats (good) is tremendously important to our health.

The ratio of Omega 6 (bad) to Omega 3 (good) fats needs to be below 4:1 for optimum health. That’s:  lower than 4 parts bad fat TO 1 part good fat.  If the fats are 4:1 or higher it has been linked to health problems.

Grain-fed (feedlot) beef statistically can have a ratio of 20:1 or more.  That’s 20 parts bad fat TO 1 part good fat.  YIKES!

Grass-fed beef beef typically has a ratio of 3:1.  That’s 3 parts bad fat TO 1 part good fat.  YEA!  source

The bottom line is that grassfed animal products are high in health-enhancing fats (omega 3); they are likewise, low in the fats that have been linked with disease (omega 6).  Grass-fed products can even prevent and treat: coronary artery disease, hypertension, arthritis, cancer, and inflammatory & autoimmune disorders.

Healthy fats are like medicine.  Crazy.

#3 NATURAL FATS CAN BE HEATED

Did you know that some healthy oils turn unhealthy if they get too hot?  Olive oil is an example of this.  It is one of the healthiest foods you can eat, unless you get it too hot.  Canola oil and soybean oil are terrible for you period, but are even worse if they are heated.

Rendered fat that comes from sunbathing, grass-eating animals is not only healthy and healing, it is also stable at high heats. Cook it, fry it, saute it, bake it, boil it, grill it, anything you want – it is stable and won’t turn toxic even if you deep-fry fish in it.

#4 NATURAL FATS WON’T MAKE YOU FAT

Have you ever heard of the farmer who decided to fatten up his cows for slaughter by feeding them fat (in the form of coconut oil)?  It’s a true story.  It happened in the 1940’s.  Guess what happened to the cows that were fattened up on fat… they lost weight.  Good fats do not make you fat.

Not only will they not make you fat, Natural fats will keep you leaner, help you to feel more satisfied, and improve your heart health.

The bottom line is that all fats are not created equal.  Fat, grease, lard, tallow and suet from organic, grass-fed animals are health foods that make all the other health foods jealous.
